by ellen gilbert..... My deepest desire is to be famous. But I take pride in your desire for me My origin is vaca – cow COVID needs the cow, NOW! Residing in a sick body I could be transformed so I can heal. My deepest desire is to be found. There is no prize of greater value. Parents, workers, lovers, elders The dying and the waiting to be born: Yearning, restless, frantic, just for me I alone can save the world.
A PRAYER
May I be the best I’ll ever be May I show my warts and all May we face the truth of our history Slave owners big and small. May they share their food with others May they kneel together in grace May fathers become mothers And the country do about face. May we see the face of God in trees May we know we’re not in charge May the governed become leaders And the stuckness be dislodged. May our hearts see they can reopen May our false selves just come out May God heal what’s truly broken And may a whisper be a shout.
Really loved reading A Prayer. It seems so universal and yet also so of-the-times.
